OzFDM Silk PLA Filament
OzFDM’s Silk PLA 1.75 mm filament is standard PLA blended with specialised additives, such as elastomers and flow modifiers. These additives alter how the material melts and flows during extrusion, allowing layers to fuse more smoothly and reflect light more evenly across the surface. The result is a high shine, almost metallic appearance that visually softens layer lines compared to standard PLA. This formulation is designed primarily for aesthetics rather than strength, meaning silk PLA can be slightly more brittle and have reduced interlayer strength. For best results, it typically benefits from slightly higher nozzle temperatures and slower print speeds, making it ideal for decorative and display focused prints rather than functional or load bearing parts.
Our Silk PLA at OzFDM is expertly crafted for makers who aspire to elevate their projects with a touch of elegance while maintaining the utmost reliability in their prints. We have a colour range that spans 17 different shades, from neutrals to bright tones, paired with the versatility of aesthetics, light functionality and decorativeness, which makes it perfect for a wide range of prints, including intricate character models, trophies, and display pieces.
Display Models: 3D Printed by Global3D
Silk PLA Shades: Red, Blue, Violet, Grey, Skin, Bronze, Green, Yellow, Pink

Vibrant Filament for Any Event
Silk PLA Colour Range
OzFDM’s Silk PLA range showcases 17 stunning shades, each with a soft metallic sheen that catches light beautifully. The smooth, reflective finish enhances every detail, making colours appear richer and more dynamic straight off the print bed. From bright tones to elegant neutrals, every spool adds depth and dimension to your designs.

Disclaimer on Colour Accuracy: The filament colours displayed above have been specified using our Nix Mini 3 Colour Sensor to ensure accurate, real world representations of each shade. This method allows us to capture each shade as closely as possible, but factors such as lighting, display settings, and material reflection can cause slight variations. Silk finishes, in particular, may appear different under certain lighting conditions, so the shades shown should be used as an approximate visual guide.

Smart Spools, Seamless Printing
Silk PLA and AMS Compatibility
- Fully AMS-compatible for reliable multicolour or multimaterial printing.
- Manufactured with moisture-resistant, recyclable spools to protect filament quality.
- Tangle-free winding ensures smooth feeding through every print job.
Elevated Aesthetics, Familiar Printing
High Gloss Visual Finish
Silk PLA is engineered to deliver a smooth, high shine surface that gives printed parts a premium, almost metallic appearance.
These specialised additives allow the filament to flow more evenly during extrusion, helping light reflect consistently across the surface.
This results in visually cleaner prints with reduced layer visibility, making Silk PLA ideal for display pieces, decorative models, and projects where appearance is just as important as form.
Enhanced Surface Smoothness
The modified formulation of Silk PLA improves melt flow and layer blending, creating a softer visual transition between layers.
This enhanced surface smoothness reduces the need for post processing such as sanding or coating, saving time while still achieving a polished final result.
Prints come off the bed looking refined and finished, even on complex curves and detailed geometry.
Easy Printing with PLA Familiarity
Despite its premium look, Silk PLA retains the user friendly nature of standard PLA.
It prints reliably on most desktop 3D printers without the need for enclosed chambers or specialised hardware.
With slightly adjusted temperatures and print speeds, users can achieve consistent results while enjoying the aesthetic upgrade that Silk PLA offers, making it an accessible choice for both beginners and experienced makers.

Drying recommendation:
40°C – 45°C for 4–6 hours using a filament dryer / food dehydrator.
Storage recommendation:
Airtight bag or container with desiccant in a cool, dark and dry area to prevent moisture absorption. For optimal long term storage we recommend drying the filament prior to sealing the filament spool in a vacuum bag with desiccant.
Biodegradable under commercial composting conditions. Please do not throw into your compost bin at home.
