Filament storage and humidity control

Damp filament strings, pops and prints weak layers, so dry storage is usually the first accessory worth buying. The starter kit combines vacuum bags with a hand pump, desiccant and humidity indicator cards, and the refill pack adds ten more bags and desiccant as your collection grows. PTFE tubing: sizes and when to replace it

Our PTFE Bowden tubing comes by the metre in 2 x 4 mm and 2.5 x 4 mm (inner x outer diameter). Its low friction and heat resistance make it ideal for feeding filament from the spool to the extruder, and on Bowden printers from the extruder to the hot end. Measure the old tube and match both diameters.

Signs a PTFE tube needs replacing

  • Heat damage: the end nearest the hot end looks brown, discoloured, flared or squashed.
  • Wear: the bore is scuffed or grooved, or filament drags when pushed through by hand.
  • Gaps: the tube has crept back from its fitting, leaving a space where filament can snag or clog.
  • Kinks: a sharp bend or crushed section that pinches the filament path.

XT30, XT60 and XT90 power connectors

These RC style connector pairs carry high current in RC, drone, robotics and battery charging projects. The XT30 pair is rated for up to 30A continuous, and the XT60 pair comes with red and black silicone insulated leads already soldered on and is rated for up to 60A continuous. The XT90 pair is built for the most demanding high current setups, and the XT30 and XT90 both have keyed housings that help prevent reverse polarity. Which PTFE tube size do I need?

Match the tube already on your printer. Both of our sizes share a 4 mm outer diameter, with a choice of 2 mm or 2.5 mm inner diameter. Measure the bore of the old tube or check your printer's documentation, then order enough length to cover the whole run plus a little extra for a clean, square cut.

What is the USB wall charger for?

It sits with our storage gear to power the Electric USB Vacuum Pump. The pump recharges over USB, and the Dual USB Wall Charger 2A lets you charge it from a standard wall socket. The charger has two USB ports with a 2A output and is RCM compliant, meaning it is approved for use in Australia.

Do I need XT60 or XT90 connectors?

Size the connector to the current your circuit draws. The XT30 is rated to 30A continuous and the XT60 to 60A continuous, while the XT90 is made for higher current setups, including battery charging systems. Stay under the rating, match the wire gauge to the load and keep your polarity consistent from build to build.
