A printed enclosure, jig or robot rarely works on plastic alone. It needs threads that survive repeated assembly, fixings that clamp parts together, and hardware that lets things spin, slide, click or snap shut. This hub gathers that 3D printing hardware in one place and points you to the detailed guide for each family. For inspiration, read Printing Replacement Parts: Saving Money the Maker Way.
Brass inserts melt into a printed hole and leave a metal thread you can use again and again. Buy single knurled inserts from M2 to M8, start with the Heat Set Insert Starter Kit for M2 to M5, and fit the Soldering Iron Adapter Kit to your iron. Hole charts and installation steps are in our heat set inserts guide.
The nuts, bolts and washers range covers stainless button head and countersunk screws, hex, thin and nyloc nuts, washers and galvanised square nuts. The M3 Fastener Starter Kit suits most printer parts, while thread forming screws drive straight into plastic. Unsure which approach suits your part? Our fasteners guide compares every method.
The 608ZZ, 606ZZ, 625-2RS and 683ZZ bearings carry rotating parts, from spool holders to idlers, and small round neodymium magnets in 12 sizes make lids and tool mounts snap into place. Size tables and press fit tips live on our bearings and magnets page.
SS304 steel balls from 2 to 10 mm create click detents, rolling races and ball joints. Polished dowel pins in 2, 3 and 5 mm diameters make hard wearing hinge axles and alignment pins. Both come as singles or in assortments.
Here is how the hardware comes together in a typical project: a printed case for a single board computer with a screw-down lid and a magnetic cable hatch. Adjust quantities and lengths to suit your own design.
| Job | Qty | Hardware |
|---|---|---|
| Metal threads for the lid screws | 4 | M3 Short inserts from Brass Threaded Heat Inserts (Knurled) - Metric |
| Lid screws | 4 | M3 button head screws from the M3 Fastener Starter Kit (140 pcs) |
| Mounting the board | 4 sets | M2.5 countersunk screws, nuts and washers from the Small Fastener Kit (M2 and M2.5, 160 pcs) |
| Magnetic hatch catch | 2 | 6 x 2 mm Small Round Neodymium Magnets |
| Setting the inserts | 1 | Soldering Iron Adapter Kit for Plastic Heat Inserts |
Most hardware is sold individually, and our kits are made up from the same parts, so any size can be topped up from its own product page. Knurled brass inserts are automatically 10% off when you buy 100 or more of a single size, and 20% off at a quantity of 1,000 or more. Orders dispatch from our Perth and Melbourne warehouses with free shipping Australia-wide over $299 (excluding PO Boxes), and businesses, schools and print farms can apply for a trade account.
Start with M3, the default thread for fan mounts, enclosures, printer upgrades and most functional designs you will download. The M3 Fastener Starter Kit and M3 Heat Set Insert Pack cover those jobs between them. Add bearings, magnets or pins once a project has moving parts, and step up to M4 or M5 for frames and brackets.
Not all of it. The screws, nuts, washers, steel balls and dowel pins are stainless, mostly SS304, for good corrosion resistance indoors and out. The square nuts are galvanised steel, the heat set inserts are knurled brass and the magnets are neodymium, so check the product page when corrosion resistance matters for a build.
Yes. Most inserts, screws, nuts, washers, bearings, magnets, balls and pins are sold individually, so a repair that needs two nuts only needs two nuts in the cart. Kits and assortments bundle popular sizes for less than buying each on its own, and the thread forming screws also come in packs of 100.
Many printer builds and upgrades rely on M3 and M5 hardware. Our M3 Thick heat set insert matches designs that call for an M3 x 5 x 4 insert, and the M5 Heat Set Insert Pack and M5 Fastener Starter Kit suit aluminium extrusion frames. Check your build's bill of materials for the exact sizes and quantities before ordering.
