Stainless dowel pins for hinges, axles, detents and alignment features in printed assemblies: 2 mm, 3 mm and 5 mm diameters in the most useful lengths, ten of each.

Metal Pins for Moving and Aligned Parts

Printed hinges and pivots wear quickly when plastic rubs on plastic. A polished stainless pin gives a smooth, strong axle that lasts, and the same pins make accurate alignment features for multi-part prints.

Hinges and Axles

Use a pin as the pivot for boxes, lids, clamps and folding mechanisms, with a clearance hole in one part and a snug hole in the other.

Alignment and Detents

Press pins into one half of a split print to register the other half precisely, or use them as detents and stops in sliding parts.

Design Tips

Hole sizes for a press fit or a free running fit vary between printers, filaments and settings. Print a small test block with a few hole sizes around each pin diameter and use the one that gives the fit you want.

For hinges, make the hole in the moving part slightly larger so it turns freely, and the hole in the fixed part snug so the pin stays put.
