The Bambu Lab A1 Mini is Bambu's most accessible printer: a compact, open frame bedslinger with automatic calibration, a direct drive extruder, and full compatibility with the AMS Lite (a simplified four spool colour changer). It's the ideal entry point into the Bambu ecosystem for makers who don't need an enclosure and want a machine that's genuinely ready to print within minutes of unboxing.
The smaller 180 × 180 × 180 mm build volume suits the majority of hobby and home projects. The bedslinger design means the print head moves on a single axis while the bed moves front to back, which is mechanically simpler but makes tall prints more susceptible to ringing artefacts at high speeds. Bambu's input shaping (vibration compensation) mitigates this well for most geometry.
The A1 Mini handles PLA, PLA+, Silk PLA, Matte PLA, and PETG with ease. Its 80°C max bed temperature rules out ABS and polycarbonate, but for the filaments OzFDM stocks in the PLA and PETG range, it's an outstanding performer at the price.
The bundled AMS Lite provides multi-colour capability right out of the box (or with the combo kit), which is a significant differentiator at this price point. Australian beginners looking to print multi-colour models, miniatures, or functional parts in PLA will find the A1 Mini hard to beat.
