The Voron Trident is not a product you buy from a shelf; it's a community designed, self sourced, self built machine. Voron Design publishes open source blueprints; you source the parts, print the plastic components on another machine, and assemble it yourself. The result, when done correctly, is a printer that rivals (and in many ways exceeds) commercial alternatives at its price point.
The Trident uses a triple-motor Z system (three independent lead screws) for exceptionally flat and stable bed tramming. This is one of its key advantages over the Voron 2.4, which uses a flying gantry, the Trident's simpler bed makes it easier to build and maintain whilst still delivering excellent results.
Running Klipper firmware, the Trident supports every calibration macro available to the platform: resonance compensation, pressure advance, bed mesh compensation, and more. The enclosed chamber easily reaches 50°C+ for ABS, ASA, Nylon, and Polycarbonate. Paired with OzFDM's engineering filament range, a well built Trident is an industrial capable machine.
The build difficulty is genuinely high, so plan for several weekends of work and be prepared to troubleshoot wiring, firmware, and mechanical alignment. The Voron community (Discord and Reddit) is extremely active and helpful, with strong Australian representation. Several Australian Discord servers and Facebook groups exist specifically for Voron builders.
For experienced makers who want a machine they can repair, modify, and truly understand inside and out, the Voron Trident is the ultimate destination. It's not for the faint hearted, but the end result is deeply satisfying.
ProsTotal control and repairability Fully enclosed — excels with engineering materials Klipper firmware — infinitely configurable Strong community and Australian builder network Can be configured for virtually any filament Highly cost-effective vs comparable commercial machines |
ConsRequires significant build time and skill Self sourcing parts is time consuming No out Ωof-box experience, you build everything Troubleshooting requires deep mechanical/electrical knowledge |
Best For
- Advanced makers and tinkerers
- Engineering filament production (ABS, ASA, Nylon, PC)
- Makers who want to understand every component
- Community focused 3D printing enthusiasts
