Status, September 2026: Discontinued. Bambu Lab ended X1 Carbon production on 31 March 2026, and the X2D launched in April 2026 as its successor. Bambu Lab lists firmware bug fixes and feature updates until 31 May 2027, security patches until 31 May 2029, and spare parts and support until 31 March 2031.
The Bambu Lab X1 Carbon is a fully enclosed CoreXY printer with a hardened steel hotend, Lidar-assisted calibration and AMS multi-colour support. It is no longer made, but it remains a capable machine for engineering filaments and is still part of the OzFDM print farm.

About the X1 Carbon
The X1 Carbon arrived in 2022 and changed what makers expected from a desktop 3D printer out of the box: a closed build chamber, fast CoreXY motion, the AMS multi-material system and automatic calibration.
For OzFDM customers the enclosure and the hardened steel hotend are the features that matter most. The enclosure keeps warmth from the bed in the chamber for ABS, ASA, carbon fibre nylon and polycarbonate, and the hardened steel nozzle handles abrasive carbon fibre filaments that wear out a brass nozzle quickly. The chamber is not actively heated, so its temperature follows the bed rather than being set directly.
Lidar first-layer inspection, vibration compensation (input shaping) and automatic flow calibration remove most of the manual tuning older machines needed. Bambu Lab rates the toolhead at up to 500 mm/s with 20 m/s² acceleration, although real print speeds depend on the model and the filament.
The AMS feeds up to four spools per unit into a single print, purging the old colour or material into a waste chute at each change. That makes the X1 Carbon a practical route into multi-colour and multi-material printing.
Running costs include replacement build plates and hotends, and the machine depends on Bambu Studio and Bambu Lab firmware. With production ended, check parts availability before buying a second-hand unit. If you are buying new, the X2D is the X1 Carbon's replacement in Bambu Lab's range.

Ready to print? Grab your filament from OzFDM.
Good starting points for the X1 Carbon:
- ASA: UV-resistant outdoor parts, printed in the enclosure
- PA6-CF: stiff, heat-resistant parts for the hardened steel hotend
- PETG+: tough everyday functional parts
- Polycarbonate: high heat deflection parts that need an enclosed chamber
