Status, September 2026: Superseded by the Prusa XL+. In August 2026 Prusa Research upgraded the XL with a Tool Offset Sensor, 360-degree print cooling, GT1.5 belts, high-flow nozzles and a nozzle wiper, and said complete upgrade kits for existing XL owners are coming.

The Original Prusa XL is a large-format CoreXY printer with an automatic toolchanger for up to five independent toolheads, a 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume and a segmented 120°C heatbed. It is one of the printers in the OzFDM print farm.

About the Prusa XL

The XL is Prusa Research's large-format toolchanger printer. It uses a CoreXY motion system with Input Shaper, and each toolhead is a complete Nextruder with its own hotend and extruder. Parked toolheads can stay heated, so tool changes are quick.

First-layer calibration uses the Nextruder's load cell, so the nozzle itself is the sensor. The 360 × 360 mm heatbed is split into 16 individually controlled tiles for more even heating across such a large bed.

The 290°C nozzle limit covers most of OzFDM's engineering range, including PA6-CF (270–290°C), PPA-CF (255–275°C), PET-CF (260–290°C) and ASA-CF (250–280°C), with a hardened nozzle for carbon fibre filaments. Materials that need more heat, such as PPS-CF at 300–350°C, are outside its range, and ASA and nylon benefit from the optional enclosure.

Prusa's XL+ update, announced in August 2026, adds a dedicated Tool Offset Sensor that Prusa says aligns the toolheads about 20 times faster than the previous method, plus 360-degree cooling, GT1.5 belts, high-flow nozzles as standard and an integrated nozzle wiper. Prusa has said complete upgrade kits are coming for existing XL owners, and the new components will also be sold individually.

The XL works with PrusaSlicer, can be managed through Prusa Connect or run fully offline, and is supported by detailed guides in the Prusa Knowledge Base.
