Heat and load: what 3D printed functional parts can handle

Heat

PLA+ is happy on a desk or indoor shelf, but it softens with heat, so keep it away from hot cars, heaters and strong summer sun. PETG copes better with warmth and moisture. The Grip & Chill holder is printed in PETG for exactly that reason, so condensation, sunscreen and pool splashes are no bother. TPU is soft and bendy, which suits pieces that need to grip or flex, like the door wedge.

Load and safe use

  • Printed stands and holders are made for light, everyday jobs. Use rated hardware for anything heavy or overhead.
  • Use incense holders on a stable, heat-safe surface and never leave burning incense unattended.
  • Printed items are not recommended for direct food contact, since layer lines can trap bacteria.

Yes, they are made to be played, not just displayed. Novelty shapes feel different in the hand, so it is worth trying a few.

Can I keep a PLA+ phone stand in the car?

We would not. A parked car heats up quickly in an Australian summer, and PLA+ can soften and lose its shape. That is why the care notes for pieces like the Heart Phone Stand say to keep them away from hot cars and direct summer sun. A desk, kitchen bench or bedside table indoors is a much better home.

How much weight can a printed hook or stand hold?

Unless a product page states a specific use, treat printed hooks, stands and holders as homes for light everyday items like keys, phones, headphones and glasses. They are not load-rated hardware, so do not rely on them for heavy bags, tools stored overhead or anything where a failure could hurt someone. A rated metal hook or bracket is the right choice there.
