Printing Notes

PLA+ is toughened PLA. Its impact strength is 9.5 – 10.5 kJ/m², about double PLA Basic's 4.5 – 5 kJ/m², at the same low nozzle and bed temperatures.

OzFDM rates PLA+ at 60 – 90 mm/s, so cap print moves at 90 mm/s in PrusaSlicer even though the XL can move faster. Travel moves can stay at the profile default.

PLA+ comes on a 200 mm spool with thicker 2.5 mm walls, a sturdier choice than PLA Basic's thinner spool for long multi-tool jobs.

Multi-tool: PLA+ and PETG work together on the XL. Prusa has tested PETG supports under PLA parts and PLA supports under PETG. Raise the minimal purge from 15 to 35 mm³ when a job mixes materials.

Slicer: PrusaSlicer with the Prusa XL printer profile and a 0.4 mm nozzle. Dry the filament at 40 – 45 °C for 4 – 6 h before a long print; every figure above assumes dry filament.

Troubleshooting

Layers splitting on tall parts: Raise the nozzle to 220 °C and slow print moves toward 60 mm/s. Add a brim to tall, thin parts.

Stringing: Dry at 40 – 45 °C for 4 – 6 h, then try 210 °C.

Patchy first layer in one area of the bed: Wash the sheet with warm soapy water, then wipe it with IPA. Fingerprints are easy to miss on a sheet this size.
