Wire gauge colour code

Insulated terminals and solder seal connectors are colour coded by the wire they take. Match the terminal to the wire, then the crimper die to the terminal.

White (solder seal)26 to 24AWG0.25 to 0.35mm²

Testing and holding

Insulated alligator clips make quick test leads, micro test hooks grab IC legs for a logic analyser, and the 18650 holder turns a lithium cell into a project power source. Tidy the finished harness with cable ties. For crimpers and strippers, see our crimping tools.

Buying electronic parts from OzFDM

Every part is sold individually, so you can pick up two resistors or two hundred without buying a kit full of values you will never use. Orders ship from our Bibra Lake store in Perth, and orders over $299 ship free Australia-wide (excluding PO Boxes).

Connectors and wiring FAQs

Which XT connector do I need?

Size the connector to the current: XT30 for up to 30A on small batteries and FPV builds, XT60 for up to 60A on most RC and e-bike packs, XT90 for up to 90A on larger packs.

How is hook-up wire sold?

By the metre. Order the number of metres you need and each colour ships as one continuous length.

Do I need special tools for crimp terminals?

A ratchet crimper with insulated terminal dies gives a reliable, gas tight joint. Pliers can flatten the barrel, but the joint is weaker and can pull out.

Can I cut the female header strip to length?

Yes, with side cutters through the pin you want to remove. You lose one pin at each cut, so cut one position past the length you need. The male strip snaps cleanly at any point.
