Just unboxed a new 3D printer for the first time? This kit covers what you will want in your first weeks of printing: four rolls of filament, the hand tools to clean up prints, nozzle care, and vacuum storage to keep open rolls dry.

  • 4 KG of filament: PLA+ Black, PLA+ White, Matte PLA Red and PETG Basic Black
  • Finishing tools: precision flush cutters, hobby knife and 5 spare #11 blades
  • Nozzle care: 0.4 mm cleaning needles and a brass wire brush
  • Dry storage: 5 vacuum bags, a hand pump, humidity indicator cards and desiccant

Every item is the same product we sell individually, bundled together for a cheaper price to get you started. Suits any 3D printer that uses 1.75 mm filament - pretty much everything these days!

My First 3D Print, Sorted

A new printer is ready to go out of the box, but most new owners quickly find they need a few extras: more filament to experiment with, something to snip away supports and brims, a way to clear a blocked nozzle, and somewhere to keep open rolls away from moisture.

The OzFDM 3D Printing Starter Kit puts all of it in one order, using the same filament and tools we sell individually.

What You Get

Four Rolls of Filament

PLA+ in Black and White is our toughened everyday PLA: easy to print, low warping and strong layer adhesion.

Matte PLA in Red gives display prints a low sheen finish that makes layer lines less noticeable.

PETG Basic in Black is for parts that need more strength and temperature resistance than PLA.

Tools to Finish Your Prints

The precision flush cutters cut cleanly and close to the surface, so removing supports, brims and stray strings leaves a tidy finish.

The hobby knife and a pack of 5 spare #11 blades take care of trimming edges, cleaning out holes and fine detail work.

Nozzle Care and Dry Storage

Nozzle cleaning needles (pack of 10, sized for a 0.4 mm nozzle) clear partial and full clogs, and the brass wire brush removes residue from the outside of the nozzle.

The Filament Storage Starter Kit includes 5 vacuum bags, a hand pump, 5 humidity indicator cards and 5 desiccant bags, enough to seal every roll in this kit.

Your First Week, Step by Step

  1. Start with PLA+. Load the Black or White roll and print a small test model to get a feel for your printer.
  2. Use Matte PLA for display pieces. Figures, vases, signs and gifts look their best with a matte finish.
  3. Move to PETG for functional parts. Brackets, clips, hooks and parts that need to flex a little without snapping suit PETG.
  4. Clean up with the cutters and knife. Snip supports and brims flush, then trim any remaining edges with the hobby knife.
  5. Seal your rolls when you are done. Put each open roll in a vacuum bag with a desiccant bag and a humidity card, then pump the air out.
  6. Keep the nozzle clear. If extrusion looks thin or stops, heat the nozzle to the last printing temperature and pass a cleaning needle through a few times. To brush residue off the outside, heat the nozzle to just below the last printing temperature and wear eye protection.

Keeping Filament Dry

PLA and PETG slowly absorb moisture from the air, which can lead to stringing, rough surfaces and weaker layers. Store open rolls in an airtight bag with desiccant, somewhere cool, dark and dry. For long term storage, dry the filament first and then vacuum seal it.

The humidity indicator cards in the storage kit show at a glance when a bag needs fresh desiccant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose different colours?

The kit comes in the colours listed. For other colours, add extra rolls from our filament range. Once you have three or more individual rolls in your cart, our filament volume pricing applies to those rolls.

Will this kit suit my printer?

Yes, if your printer uses 1.75 mm filament. The nozzle cleaning needles are sized for a 0.4 mm nozzle, the standard size on most printers.

Is there a kit with fasteners and heat set inserts?

Yes. The 3D Printing Maker Kit pairs PLA+ and PETG filament with 210 pieces of maker hardware, a file set and the same finishing tools, for people who want to build functional parts from day one.
