Kaca-orbital

Give it a flick and the ring seems to lift clean off its spokes, hovering in a blur while the whole top holds its balance on a single tapered point. That is the trick behind Kaca Orbital, a spinning top design by Martin Zampach built around three curved arms holding a wide outer ring just far enough from the centre to catch the eye mid spin. Each top is 3D printed in a single colour of PLA+, so the finish stays smooth and the weight stays even around the ring, which is exactly what keeps it upright and spinning far longer than a top with a plain solid disc. Look closely before it is set spinning and you will see the crisp three spoke geometry and the neat taper of the handle; set it going and that detail dissolves into a soft, glowing halo. It is a desk toy in the best sense: something to spin between calls, hand to a curious visitor, or park on a shelf as a small kinetic sculpture when it is at rest.
